An independent company, Ehrmanns was established in 1875 and is today one of the UK ‘s leading wine importer. Last year the company sold over 2 millions cases and imported wine from over 14 countries to its mix of On and Off Trade customers.
Benefiting from an historical solid bond with Spain and South America, Ehrmanns has also constantly looked for new ways to re invent itself and has worked closely with Fairtrade wineries since 2004 – it is today the leader in this category as well as the organic sector ( Stellar organics ) and has been very active in packaging innovations through its work with South African brand Arniston Bay.
Over the past 20 years wine has dropped its elitist image to become a part of everyday British life. Now British wine drinkers consume around 1.15 billion bottles of wine a year, buying wine for a wide range of occasions : to share with friends over dinner, to enjoy during a romantic dinner for two or at a BBQ, or simply to sip at the end of a hard day, relaxing in front of the TV with a take away. The occasions for drinking wine are many and varied and these factors combined with the consumer’s background, income, mood and knowledge of wine all influence their purchase decisions.
Ehrmanns works with its customers and producers partners to produce a portfolio of wine brands and exclusive labels as varied as the needs of this consumer. Balancing its exceptionally high level of wine expertise and sourcing with awareness of consumer demands and continuous appraisal of latest market trends. |
